(ANSA) – ROME, 08 SEPTEMBER – The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella laid a wreath at Porta San Paolo, on the occasion of September 8th as part of the celebrations for the 81st Anniversary of the Defense of Rome. The ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the Senate Maria Domenica Castellone, the Vice President of the Chamber Anna Ascani, the Vice President of the Constitutional Court Giulio Prosperetti, the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, the President of the Lazio Region Francesco Rocca, the Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the Vice Prefect Tania Giallongo. Also present were the Chief of Staff of the Army General Carmine Masiello, the General of the Land Operational Forces Command Gaetano Zauner, the President of the National Association of Liberation War Fighters in the Regular Departments of the Armed Forces General Enrico Pino and the partisan associations with their gonfalons. The ceremony continues at the Parco della Resistenza, not far away, where another wreath will be laid at the monument for the 87,000 soldiers who fell during the liberation struggle 1943-45.
