CASTROVILLARI – Matteo Garrone will be a guest of i-Fest International Film Festival in Castrovillari.
The great and award-winning Italian director, internationally renowned and author of extraordinary films with which he has conquered international audiences, will be at i-Fest 24 on Thursday 12 September.
In 2024 he was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best foreign film with his touching “Io Capitano”, in which he addresses urgent issues such as immigration and human desperation with great sensitivity and mastery. The film also won the Silver Lion for best director at the 80th Venice International Art and Film Festival and received seven David di Donatello awards.
His long career began in 1996 with the short film “Silhouette” with which he won the Sacher Festival, which in the same year became one of the three episodes that make up his first feature film “Terra di mezzo”. Films such as “Ospiti”, “Estate romana”, “L’imbalsamatore” and “Primo amore” followed, through which he defined an unmistakable cinematographic style and told his precise artistic perspective on the world.
Great success came with “Gomorrah” in 2008, winner of the Grand Prix Special Jury at the Cannes Film Festival, five European Film Awards, seven David di Donatello Awards, and nominated for a Golden Globe.
They are followed by “Reality” (2012), his first international co-production, “Tale of Tales” (2015), a film shot entirely in English and with foreign actors, “Dogman” (2018), an intense thriller from another time, “Pinocchio” (2019), a magical reinterpretation of Collodi’s masterpiece, and “Io Capitano” (2023), a poignant tale of immigration shot entirely abroad.
Films very different in genre and themes but always of great depth and with a strong visual impact. A cinema full of desire and obsession through which Matteo reminds us that the seventh art can be much more than a simple form of entertainment, it can be an intense transformative experience, an emotional journey into the heart of humanity.
