Pop singer Matthias Reim (64) canceled his concerts in September and October for health reasons, including those on Friday evening in Kamenz and in Freiberg’s Tivoli on September 30th. “Unfortunately, we have to inform you that Matthias Reim’s health has deteriorated in the last few days and he had to undergo intensive medical treatment tonight,” concert organizer Dieter Semmelmann wrote on Instagram late Thursday evening.

“In addition to his vocal cord inflammation, other, more serious problems have emerged that will require longer-term treatment and will take several weeks.” Among other things, performances in Hamburg, Potsdam and Nuremberg were planned for the next few weeks.

The concert promoter went on to say: “We have to give him a longer rest period and we are confident that he will be fully fit again for the arena concerts in December.” Fans sent the singer well wishes via Instagram.

Reim rose to prominence in the early ’90s with the hit song Damn, I Love You. In April he became a father for the seventh time. The daughter with his wife Christin Stark is called Zoe. The hit star and the singer have been married since 2020, they got married in the middle of the first corona lockdown. (dpa/mqu)
