Mauricio Trabanino it’s a Guatemalan and Salvadoran composer whose passion for music has led him to be part of United States film productions. What a chilero! The art of Guatemalans continues to go far.
The Guatemalan who has composed songs for international film projects
The talent of Mauricio Trabanino has allowed him to take his music beyond Guatemalan borders, working as a composer in the United States film industry. In 2019, after 18 years of playing the piano and having published his first album, the Guatemalan had the opportunity to make his first film work. His collaboration with director Andrés Irías in the independent film Perception It marked the beginning of his career in this industry.
Since then, he has worked on various productions, including award-winning short films such as Speak Only Good of the Dead y Now You See Nothinguntil reaching his first feature film, Silver Goal. This film, which portrays the life of Guatemalan goalscorer Juan Carlos Plata, is special, since it was recorded in Guatemala, his native country. What a chilero!
Trabanino started in music since he was little and at university he not only decided to specialize in this area but also in medicine. In 2019 he graduated with a degree in Sound Engineering and in 2020 he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery, both degrees were obtained in Costa Rica.
As for his music, the Guatemalan is distinguished by his mastery of varied styles, although his predilection falls on minimalism and neoclassicism. In his own words, “when it comes to transmitting emotions, sometimes less is more,” a philosophy that is reflected in his work.
His first Hollywood film
Recently, Trabanino has composed the soundtrack for his first Hollywood feature film, Fireflies in Mozote. Directed by Ernesto Melara and filmed in El Salvador, this film features the participation of American Mena Suvari, known for her roles in the saga American Pieand the Spanish Paz Vega, who has played characters in the films Spanglish y Rambo V.
Under the Stars, an album composed to heal the soul
Under the Stars o Under the stars represents the latest musical proposal by Mauricio Trabanino. This neoclassical album invites the listener on a journey of introspection, using repetitive cycles of harmony to induce personal reflection. Each harmonious cycle reveals new nuances, from melancholic choruses to delicate violin sections, enriching the auditory and emotional experience. With this album, the musician seeks to explore emotions and places within ourselves that might otherwise go unnoticed.
