The Mauritanian embassy in Tripoli said in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity that the meeting of the President of Mauritania with the “Libyan guest” took place at the request of “the latter,” referring to the head of the government assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad.

The embassy explained in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by Libya Al-Ahrar, that Hamad attended the meeting to discuss the subject of the meeting scheduled to be held in the coming days in coordination with the high-level committee concerned with the Libyan file, headed by “Sassungiso”, President of the Republic of the Congo.

The embassy added that the news circulating in the local media about this subject were merely guesses by some journalists, and were dealt with quickly, and the news and photos included were withdrawn.

The embassy also reiterated its country’s government’s “firm position on the internationally recognized Government of National Unity” and its continued will to work to strengthen and enhance the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries.

The government assigned by the House of Representatives said that Osama Hamad made an “official visit” to the Republic of Mauritania, and met with its President, “Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani,” after an official reception for him and his accompanying delegation at the Guest Palace in the capital, Nouakchott.
