Mauro Corona to Verissimo, the confession about alcohol: “I started drinking again”

Mauro Corona on Verissimo today, with a 360 degree interview with Silvia Toffanin, including confessions on alcohol, answers on Bianca Berlinguer and an appeal to Pier Silvio Berlusconi.

We start from the relationship with Bianca Berlinguer, who hosts E’ semper Carta bianca on Rete 4 after the long adventure on Rai3. Corona has been a regular guest for years, a pillar of the program. “I have a working relationship with Bianchina, even if I don’t consider what I do with Bianchina to be work”, she says, glossing over the message sent live in the last episode, with the ‘threat’ of abandoning the broadcast. “The work was 15 hours a day in the quarry extracting red marble… The jokes and the unspoken saying keep the viewer glued to the TV, because you have to arouse curiosity”, he says.

So, the story of a life full of suffering and pain. “I am 73 years old and I lead a dangerous life among the mountains and the inns. I have always felt like a stumbling block for my father, like my two brothers. We did not come into the world for love or affection, we happened. In our childhood we asked for a caress, which never existed. I sank many times, I came back to the surface. My mother ran away, took refuge abroad. I don’t know where she ended up: Austria, Germany, Holland, working as a scullery maid. When she left when I was 6 years old, my brothers were 5 years and 4 months old. I saw her again when I was 13, it was painful. She came back and started fighting with my father again…”, he says.

“This life has shaped me, I start again every morning from what remains and from what I have saved. Have I forgiven? Forgiveness is the desire to have them here now, but now it is too late”, he says, before opening another chapter.

“The problem of alcohol is a serious thing. Alcohol is a viper’s bite that never leaves you, you can stop it. I went 5 years without drinking, I was calm. Not happy, calm. This snake was there, I I started drinking again and I continued until 2-3 years ago and I stopped. I stopped without anyone’s help, I have a cast iron will. I stopped for 2 years, I was really fine. Then, more than a year ago I started again I still go climbing and walking, but when I come back down I don’t go home but I go to the bar: alcohol doesn’t leave you, you don’t go out”, says Corona, who closes with an appeal to Silvia Toffanin.

“Toffanina, they told me that you are Pier Silvio’s wife… Tell Pier Silvio if he can get us the Mediaset networks in the small communities… In the villages there is more need, in the winter they watch television and below the 400 inhabitants have no right to see the Mediaset networks…”, he says, obtaining maximum availability from the presenter.
