Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, stated this Saturday (21) that there is no agreement for the withdrawal of Brazilians from the Gaza Strip. The declaration came after participation in a Peace Summit held in Cairo, Egypt.

To journalists, Vieira highlighted the opening of the Rafah crossing, between Egypt and Palestine, for the entry of supplies and humanitarian aid into Gaza. In total, 26 Brazilians are waiting for rescue.

“We still don’t have anything concrete. The border was opened through the Rafah crossing, just for the delivery of humanitarian aid, I hope that as soon as possible, these Brazilians and also nationals from other possible countries will be allowed to leave”, declared the minister.

Mauro Vieira participated in the summit that included representatives from 30 countries. Countries that participate in the UN Security Council were also at the meeting.

Vieira also condemned Hamas’ attacks on Israel, signaling the Benjamin Netanyahu government. He also blamed the Palestinian group for the humanitarian crisis.

“There was also a consensus that it is essential to cease hostilities and end the violence that has been occurring, with repeated, numerous deaths, from side to side. Even bigger on the Palestinian side, but a truly calamitous situation,” he said, in his speech.
