The global component distributor Mauser (Mouser Electronics), moved forward with its expansion plans, and began the construction of a new warehouse with an area of approximately 39,000 square meters and a height of three floors. The new warehouse is an expansion of the company’s components warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas. Upon completion of the construction, the company’s inventory warehouse will cover an area of approximately 320,000 square meters, which will give the company a component storage area of approximately 1.4 million square meters, where an inventory of approximately one million MKTs (6.8 million components) manufactured by approximately 1,200 different manufacturers.

The new building will be equipped with automatic transportation and collection systems and will be connected by Gesher Ali to the other existing warehouses of the company, located on the site. The new warehouse will be equipped with robotic shelves (Vertical Lift Modules), of the type that the company recently finished installing. The company reported that about three months ago it completed the installation of 120 VLM systems: an array of vertical robotic shelves that include automatic systems for extracting components and bringing them to the warehouse personnel’s workstations. In her estimation, the new systems improve efficiency, reduce the space required to store components, and reduce by about 45% the distances that warehouse workers have to walk to collect components.

The sixth step in the strategic expansion plan

In addition to VLM, the company equipped the warehouses with automatic packaging and marking systems, each handling 14 orders per minute. For example, the I-PACK packaging systems automatically produce a specific cardboard box adapted to each order, pack it and send it for shipping. Mauser is owned by TTI, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, and focuses on supplying electronic components to development groups, building prototypes and bringing them to initial production (NPI). Today the company employs about 3,500 people. According to estimates, it owns an inventory of components worth about 1.2 billion dollars, and its sales in 2022 are expected to amount to about 3 billion dollars.

VP
VP of Marketing in EMEA, Graham Mags: “The Israeli market is unusual for us”

In a conversation with Techtime, Mauser’s vice president for marketing in the EMEA region, Graham Maggs, revealed that the construction of the new warehouse is the sixth stage in a strategic expansion plan that the company formulated several years ago, but its construction was brought forward by several years in light of the increase in the company’s activities. Mags: “In 2021, our global sales grew by about 40%, while sales in the EMEA region grew by about 80%.

“In 2022, we expect a growth of about 45% in sales. In the last decade, Mauser has transformed from a company focused on the American market to a global company. When I joined Mauser in 2010, most of the sales were in the United States. Today, about 43% of sales are in the Americas, and the rest is roughly equally divided between Asia and Europe.”

What is the weight of the Israeli market for you?

“The electronics industry in Israel is responsible for about 9% of sales in Europe. The Israeli market is very different from the European market and the world market. It is small, specialized and growing. In recent years we have been growing here at a rate of about 50% per year. Since this is a very technological market, we provide Israeli customers with technical support through a company MI Catalog We offer engineering assistance only in Israel and this is very much thanks to the capabilities of our partner here. The customers in Israel receive the orders directly from Texas, and not through Europe, so every order reaches the customer within three working days.”

Customers will start canceling duplicate orders

Mauser does not have an office in Israel. The local activity is carried out through the company MI Catalog (short for Mouser Israel Catalog), which is an Israeli company based in Ra’anana and owned by Moshe Alves. According to sales manager Mark Nodelman, the company is defined as a business partner and exclusive representative of Mauser. She works only with Mauser and is responsible for business and technical support in the Israeli market.

What is your forecast for the supply chain problem?

Mags: “In our estimation, when the supply chain situation in the world improves and there is greater availability of components, we will see a temporary and moderate decrease in orders. Today, customers make a lot of duplicate orders, and when the components start to reach the market, they will cancel some of the duplicate orders. However, unlike similar situations in the past, this time we do not foresee a collapse of the market, because there are too many active growth engines that are pushing the market, such as the autonomous vehicle, the military market, the industrial market, medical devices and the entire revolution of wireless connectivity in the consumer market. Our site has four million hits a day, most of them from people doing development and building prototypes. That’s why we see this trend very well, and invest in building a large inventory of components.”
