Part of the 19th edition of the Festival, this musical evening, steeped in fusion, offered a perfect blend of dance and song, to the great delight of the spectators, who came in large numbers to enjoy the originality and innovative aspect of the performances, guaranteed by the diversity of sounds and rhythms.
With instruments cobbled together from recycled materials, the Nana Benz troupe opened the evening by performing songs with varied themes, evoking gender equality, the crucial role of women in African society and the importance of preserving the environment.
Making the emancipation of African women one of their main causes, the singers of the group Nana Benz aroused the admiration of the Bouregreg public with the power of their soulful voices and the harmony of their movements on stage.
Drawing her inspiration from traditional voodoo music mixed with different genres such as blues, funk and jazz, Nana Benz allowed festival-goers to discover her African fight through the prism of “Digital Voodoo” which symbolizes this mix between African and Western sounds.
Giving a new meaning to Pan-Africanism, Nana Benz performed a succession of songs with strong lyrics including “To be Free”, “Liberty”, “J’ai compris” and “Ago”, with the aim of raising awareness and making the audience think about the human and environmental causes of the Continent.
This collective with a particular Afro groove did not hesitate to pause between songs to explain and share important messages, making its performance a unique mix between a music concert and an inspiring conference.
For his part, the French-Cameroonian artist James BKS continued the evening by revealing several of his well-known songs, inviting festival-goers to proudly wear their African identity and to fully accept their cultural differences.
Exploring his own heritage through his music, James BKS delivered a magnificent performance, marked by a cultural fusion of traditional African rhythms and choirs as well as avant-garde urban sounds.
Inviting us to overcome prejudices and transcend borders, the music of the man who is also an author, composer and producer, has resonated enormously in the minds and hearts of the spectators through the accuracy of his lyrics and his visionary character, one of the notable examples of which was the title “New Breed”.
Mixing European, African and American influences, James BKS sang in different languages to convey unique messages, with the aim of creating an African society united in the face of its challenges and capable of transforming its present to better build the future.
