Now it’s official: Max Kruse will no longer play for SC Paderborn. Players and club have found a contractual solution and are expressing their opinion.

Paderborn.

Max Kruse and SC Paderborn have terminated the former German international’s contract with the second division football club. The club from East Westphalia announced that the dissolution took place by mutual agreement.

“Because the current situation was not satisfactory for us and for the player, we separated,” Paderborn’s sports director Benjamin Weber is quoted as saying in a club statement.

Kruse moved to Paderborn last summer after being dropped from VfL Wolfsburg a year ago. The 14-time German selection player repeatedly had injury problems at SCP. He only played five games for coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team. According to the club, a torn muscle fiber suffered on matchday 2 set the 35-year-old back so badly “that his physical condition made continuous appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga impossible.”

Weber still said: “During his time in Paderborn, Max always behaved in an exemplary manner.” Kruse himself said: “I wish the team and the club that they achieve their goals and wish everyone all the best for the future.”

Coach Kwasniok had already publicly said goodbye to Kruse the day before. “Real man, unfortunately it didn’t work out quite as well as we had imagined for both sides,” he said. (dpa)
