May 24 will be Bulgaria Day in Vancouver, British Columbia province in Canada.
On May 24, we celebrate the Day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture, and of Slavic literature.
This became clear after a meeting of the Consul General, Mrs. Velislava Panova, the Honorary Consul, Mr. Ron Suh, and representatives of the municipality of Vancouver.
The Bulgarian community in the city numbers several thousand people, who are well integrated and accepted by the Canadian community. Their active participation in the cultural life of Vancouver is palpable.
On the initiative of the Consulate General, on Friday evening, the city of Salmon Arm, British Columbia became part of the initiative – “Days of Bulgaria in Canada”.
More than 100 people gathered in the remote provincial town to celebrate Bulgaria Days in Canada and hear about the city of Ruse.
Each time a different city from Bulgaria is presented during the initiative. So far, the cities of Plovdiv, Shipka, Varna, Sofia and Kazanlak have been represented.
Not a single Bulgarian citizen lives on the territory of the town of Salmon Arm, but for the past 40 years a local farm has been producing Bulgarian-style yogurt.
On the initiative of our Consul General in Toronto, Mrs. Velislava Panova, the city was included in the initiative and will now become part of the tour of Canada with the sign of Bulgaria.
During the next event in the city of Shipka, the province of Ontario, the city of Stara Zagora will be presented.
They will take place on May 11 – the day of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius.
The Canadian citizens present were fascinated by the presentation of Bulgaria and were able to touch the culture and folklore of the country as well as the culinary art of representatives of the community.
