Thiruvananthapuram: At the end of this month, 10,207 employees will retire from various government departments. The figures are based on employees’ retirement dates from SPARC, a payroll software. The salaries of the Secretariat staff and the employees of various Government Departments are based on the information provided by SPARC.

Institutions other than the Water Authority in the public sector are not affiliated with SPARC. Of the universities, only CUSAT is affiliated with Spark. Steps have been taken to connect other universities.

The available number of retiring officers from the Secretariat are Public Administration Department – 81, Finance – 24 and Law – 7. 119 will retire from public sector undertakings KSFE and 870 from KSEB. The process of collecting accounts of retiring officers is continuing in all the departments.

Officials said it would only provide information on officials who have registered their retirement dates with Spark. Some of the employees do not record their retirement date in Spark. Provide information only when applying for a pension. So there will be a small difference in the current figure. Employees will be able to provide this information to Spark even after retirement, officials said.

A total of 1,12,010 people will retire from service in the next five years. This is stated in the report of the 11th Pay Commission chaired by K. Mohandas IAS. The highest number of retirees is in 2027, at 23,714. Less than 2023– 21,083. 21,537 are retiring this year. This is for government departments only.

The number of retirees will increase every year if the figures for public sector institutions, co-operatives and universities are added. Employees retire en masse in May because it used to be customary to record a date of birth in May to enroll in school in June.
