To the good data of the global number of registrations in Spain, which has chained five months of increases, the good results in terms of sales of electrified vehicles cannot be added on this occasion.

Although global registrations of electric and plug-in hybrids, including passenger cars, quadricycles, commercial and industrial vehicles, and buses, increased by 39.5% in May, with 11,146 new units, electrified vehicles accounted for 10.43% of the market total, a figure that is still lower than both the rate of the European average and the rate necessary to achieve the required emission reduction targets by 2023.

These are the figures provided by the association Handy, which point out that the registrations of zero and low emission vehicles (electrified, hybrid and gas), increased by 21.7% in the month, with 41,094 units sold. Sales of this type of vehicle account for 38.46% of the market, surpassing the market for gasoline (38.4%) and diesel (23.14%) vehicles.

The registrations of electrified, hybrid and gas passenger cars increased their sales in May by 22.7% compared to the same month of the previous year, up to 39,915 units delivered, which represent 43.37% of the total market share.

The big beneficiaries among the vehicles with the DGT ECO badge are the gas ones, which grew by 90% in May with 2,443 registered units representing 2.29% of the market share in the month. In the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles accumulated 9,840 units, 59.2% more than in the same period of the previous year. The cumulative quota for the year is 2.07%.

Sales of pure electric vehicles increased by 108.3% in May, with 5,081 registered units. It represents 4.76% of the market share in the month. In the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles totaled 23,124 units, 75.3% more than in the same period of the previous year. The cumulative share of the year is 4.87%

Plug-in hybrids grew by 25.5% during May and reached 6,065 registered units this month. It represents 5.68% of the market share for the month. In the year as a whole, sales of these vehicles totaled 25,369 units, 28.2% more than in the same period of the previous year. The cumulative quota for the year is 5.34%.

Finally, sales of non-plug-in hybrid vehicles increased by 9.1% during May, reaching 27,505 registered units this month. It represents 25.74% of the market share in May. In the accumulated year, sales of these vehicles accumulated 122,956 units, 33.1% more than in the same period of the previous year. The share of the total for the year is 25.88%.

Regarding the electrified passenger car market, in May its sales increased by 53.8%, with 10,421 units sold. Battery electric vehicles (BEV) grew by 119.6% to 4,409 units in the month, as did plug-in hybrids (PHEV) that increased their sales by 26.2% with a total of 6,012 units. Sales of electrified passenger cars come to represent 11.32% of the market share in May. While, in the accumulated year, there are 43,633 electrified passenger cars, 42% more, which represents 10.79% of the total market.
