Maya Train suspends operations due to Beryl’s arrival

He Virtual Trends will suspend its operations starting at 16:00 hours due to the upcoming arrival of the huracán Beryl to the Peninsula of Yucatan.

This was announced by the company of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) itself, which published on its X account (@TrenMayaMX):

“Due to the imminent arrival of Hurricane Beryl to the Yucatan Peninsula, we inform our users and the general public that the commercial operations of the Maya Train will be completely suspended, starting at 4:00 p.m. today, Thursday, July 4.”

The company also stated that through its Monitoring and Emergency Operations Center, it remains in contact with the National Guard, Conagua, the National Meteorological Service, Federal Civil Protection, as well as state authorities to monitor the evolution of the phenomenon and ensure the safety of its users.

This morning, the Government reported that it expects Hurricane Beryl to reach Mexico as a Category 1 storm; it will enter central Quintana Roo this Friday.

This was announced by Laura Velázquez Alzúa, head of the National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) at the morning press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In her statement, the federal official said that for the moment Beryl is a Category 3 hurricane but that:

“It will enter the national territory during the early hours of Friday through the central region of Quintana Roo (…) it is forecast that it will impact the national territory as a category 1 hurricane.”

Thus, it will land between the municipalities of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Tulum, in addition to José María Morelos, after which it will continue on its path as a tropical storm.

Likewise, a second entry into the country is expected, through the Gulf of Mexico, so its effects would be seen in the Tamaulipas municipalities of Matamoros, San Fernando and Soto La Marina, starting on Sunday night or early Monday morning.

For this second impact, the authorities predict that it will arrive as a tropical storm and could become a Category 1 hurricane.

While for the first impact, an alert was issued for Quintana Roo, Yucatán and Campeche, depending on the intensity; in the case of the first, its 11 municipalities are in orange, which is “high danger.”

On the other hand, the head of the CNCP reported that to date the Task Force that is deployed in the area has more than 13 thousand elements to respond to the emergency, among which are:

• National Defense: 4,150 troops; 583 vehicles, 7 water treatment plants and 2 community kitchens
• Navy: 1,128 elements, 87 vehicles, 5 mobile hospitals, a mobile communication unit, 13 helicopters and a tortilla maker
• National Guard: 4,457 personnel and 613 vehicles
• In addition to CFE personnel and state police.
