MayanToons, sharing biodiversity with children

MayanToons is a non-profit organization founded in 2014 that is part of the FLAAR Mesoamerica projects. Since its creation, the organization has focused on developing educational materials for children that highlight the importance of conserving the natural resources and cultural heritage of Guatemala and Mesoamerica. These materials are not only aimed at children, but also at older people who cannot read, making education an accessible tool for everyone.

The materials they produce, including books, posters, and videos, are based on information collected by FLAAR Mesoamerica and are designed to be engaging and easy to understand. A highlight is that these resources are available in three Mayan languages: Q’eqchi’, Kaqchikel, and Poqomchi’, allowing indigenous communities to access information in their native language. These materials educate readers about Mayan flora, fauna, and culture, providing details about species, their characteristics, and their ecological and cultural importance.
