Lucknow: Mayawati’s decisive announcement in Uttar Pradesh when the Lok Sabha elections are only a year away. The former Chief Minister of UP has announced that there will be no Bahujan Samajwadi Party for any grand alliance like in the last Lok Sabha elections. In 2019, Mayawati’s BSP faced the election by forming a broad alliance with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal. But the broad alliance had to face a big setback. Under the Modi influence, the BJP won more than 60 seats, while the grand alliance was limited to 15 seats. Mayawati’s party benefited from a wider alliance in 2019 compared to the 2014 elections. In 2014, the BSP won 10 seats and came second behind the BJP. Akhilesh Yadav’s SP was limited to just five seats.

But in the assembly elections of 2022, the broad coalition failed and faced the election alone. While the BJP retained power with a historic victory, Akhilesh’s party made a huge leap and Mayawati’s party narrowed down to just one seat. With Mayawati’s announcement, it is clear that when the trumpets for another election are sounded, the parties will have to face the election alone like in 2022.

Mayawati unequivocally announced that she is not in the electoral alliance. She clarified that there is no alliance with any party in the upcoming assembly elections or Lok Sabha elections. Mayawati also demanded to replace the electronic voting machine and bring back the paper ballot.
