Alaska Airways Flight 261 crashed into the Pacific Ocean on January 31, 2000, en route from the Mexican resort of Puerto Vallarta to Seattle. All 88 folks on board died. Though skilled pilots have been capable of outrun the McDonnell MD-83’s first water jet, they lacked the flexibility to deal with different water jets. After 85 % of the particles and black packing containers have been recovered from the ocean, aviation specialists from the Nationwide Transportation Security Board (NTSB) are reconstructing the reason for the crash.
