The mayor of Ramos Arizpe, José María Morales Padilla, highlighted during the presentation of his results report, that he has paid 94 percent of the municipality’s historical debt, and promised to conclude his second period as mayor, within one year, without debts.

“It was very difficult to govern a municipality in debt, and with the people angry,” Morales Padilla stated after detailing that his first period of management was “extremely complicated and represented a great challenge.”

According to the mayor, the historical debt amount of Ramos Arizpe, as of January 1, 2019, amounted to 98 million 384 thousand 278 pesos, plus 12.8 million pesos to pay for judicial and commercial resolutions and 4.7 million, for labor awards.

“With great responsibility we have faced the issue and paid, to date, 94 percent of Ramos Arizpe’s historical debt, and my commitment for next year is to end with zero debt.”

José María Morales said that the debt with which the municipal administration received put at risk the operation and proper functioning of the different areas of the City Council and that a policy of austerity, order and financial discipline had to be implemented, and prioritized investment in the issues that really affected and interested citizens.

The second management report also highlighted achievements in the supply and supply of water, and the settlement of the debt presented by the Ramos Arizpe Public Water Services Company (COMPARA). “It had a liability of more than 32 million pesos in short-term debt to suppliers and lawsuits.” The mayor announced that there are still judicial conflicts in progress.

Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas was surprised by the achievements of the mayor of the municipality, whom he described as the industrial engine of Coahuila and dared to point out that he was “the coolest mayor in Mexico.” The Coahuila president told José María Morales that he has a place in the cabinet at the end of his administration, on December 31, 2024.
