FIFA has revealed the list of candidates for the best trophies. Eleven players will compete for the 2024 Player of the Year title.
Expected names. And others a little more surprising. FIFA has revealed the list of candidates for the various The Best Trophies. And as for the best known, that of player of the year 2024, eleven players were selected. Among them we obviously find many Madrilenians – winners of the last edition of the Champions League – such as Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde, Jude Bellingham, toni Kroos and Vinicius Jr. Kylian Mbappé,who joined them this summer,is also present thanks to his good performances with Paris SG earlier in the year.
Lionel Messi (oddly) nominated
The 2024 Ballon d’Or, Rodri and his Manchester city teammate Erling Haaland are (naturally) part of it… as are the revelation of the year, lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) and Florian Wirtz, the leader of Bayer 04 Leverkusen. But in this list we also find the title holder… Lionel Messi. Even without a noteworthy trophy – or an outstanding performance – with Inter Miami FC, the “to the money” managed to convince some decision makers. Which is pretty amazing. Conversely,it’s big “rival”Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays for Al-Nassr FC,was not selected. Voting is open until Tuesday 10 December. “The weighting of votes is distributed equally between fans, captains, coaches and media representatives”indicates FIFA. See you in just under two weeks to discover the winners.
