Torres explained that the initiative responds to one of the biggest pending issues that the city has and a historical debt to recognize the sector of the population that is dedicated to the care of other people, as well as those who receive these types of services.

The legislator said that in the Mexico City There is a potential population of more than 3 million who require care; while another 3 million, mostly women, including those under 18, perform this type of work without receiving remuneration.
Inequality in the capital also involves the time spent on unpaid care work by women, which is close to 50 hours a week and this work is equivalent to 10 percent of the Gross domestic product (GDP) of the City, the member of the MC added.
