Each home measures 18 square meters, has a cement slab floor and an advanced rainwater collection system, as well as a water filter. In this way, they can focus on the basic needs of those who will reside in them, giving them a safe, clean and welcoming space.

What effect does the McDonald’s and TECHO project have on Guatemalans?

Thousands of people in our country do not have property or access to basic services, which has a strong effect on the cycle of poverty, since children who grow up without meeting these needs are more likely to get sick or drop out of school. For this reason, we seek to completely transform this reality and help vulnerable families to have a decent housing.

The TECHO project in which McDonald’s participated is designed to improve housing conditions, guaranteeing a healthy environment for the growth and development of children. It is an initiative that seeks to positively develop the quality of life of families in the most vulnerable communities in Guatemala.

What actions do you plan to take in the future?

In addition to construction in the La Concepción community, McDonald’s and TECHO plan to extend the work to 28 additional homes in Alta Verapaz and Quetzaltenango so that in 2024 they will build a total of 48 houses.
