McDonald’s celebrates Happy McDay with Guatemalans in all its restaurants in the country. This is an event that has become a tradition and whose objective is to contribute to the well-being of children.
The opening ceremony of Happy McDía 2023 was held at the McDonald’s No. 100 restaurant with the sale of the “First Big Mac” by Álvaro Cofiño, President of McDonald’s Mesoamérica and Patty Cofiño, Director of Organizational Culture, accompanied by Ronald McDonald representatives of Banco Industrial, who purchased 34,483 Big Macs to support this cause. In Quetzaltenango, the sale of the “First Big Mac” of this department was also carried out by Rodrigo Cofiño, Director of Operations of McDonald’s Guatemala.
100% of Big Mac sales this day will be donated to four causes that benefit Guatemalan children:
Ronald McDonald Children’s Foundation (FIRM)
Operation of 4 Ronald McDonald Houses, of which 3 are located in the Capital City and 1 in Cobán, benefiting more than 4,800 Guatemalan children and their families.
These houses are “a home away from home” where families from the interior of the country with a sick child find accommodation, relief and hope to move forward.
Aldo Castañeda Foundation
For 23 years McDonald’s has provided support to the Aldo Castañeda Foundation. This year, support will continue through heart operations for low-income Guatemalan children, giving them a chance at life.
Puente
The construction of Nútreme Centers will continue in Santa María Cahabón, Alta Verapaz. The objective is to provide training to mothers and accompany them in the comprehensive development of their children so that they grow up healthy and prevent chronic malnutrition. The Program interweaves two major components: initial care and education and comprehensive community and family intervention.
CEILING
Implementation of housing and habitat initiatives through the construction of progressive homes with rainwater harvesting systems, located in the departments of Quetzaltenango, Alta Verapaz and Guatemala; strengthening the capacities of communities through the joint work of families, youth volunteers and other actors.
