McDonald’s Unveils CosMc’s, a New Vintage-Inspired Spinoff Restaurant

McDonald’s has officially launched their highly anticipated new spinoff restaurant, CosMc’s, in a Chicago suburb. The restaurant, which has garnered much attention on social media, quietly opened to some customers on Thursday but officially opened to the public on Friday, with celebrations planned throughout the weekend.

CosMc’s is described as a “small-format, beverage-led” concept restaurant that will be part of a limited test run. The menu is said to feature a mix of nostalgic and new items, including some McDonald’s favorites such as Egg McMuffins sandwiches and M&M McFlurries, as well as new offerings like the Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, Spicy Queso Sandwich, and a variety of beverages and sweet treats.

The beverage menu is said to be “otherworldly,” with specialty lemonades, teas, espresso drinks, blended beverages, and cold coffee options, including a Sour Cherry Energy Slush, a Tropical Spiceade, and S’mores Cold Brew.

The restaurant’s name, CosMc’s, is inspired by a vintage McDonaldland mascot named CosMc, an alien character who appeared in ads in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The move is part of McDonald’s recent vintage revival, which also includes the return of “McNugget Buddies” as part of a new McDonald’s meal called the “Kerwin Frost Box.”

Roughly 10 CosMc’s locations are expected to open by the end of 2024, including in the Dallas Fort-Worth and San Antonio metro areas. The Bolingbrook location had a soft opening on Friday, with celebrations planned for the weekend.

The opening of CosMc’s is a significant move for McDonald’s as they continue to explore new concepts and offerings in response to changing consumer tastes and demands.
