State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called for prompt replacement of McDonald’s leaving Russia with a national fast food chain. First of all, this is necessary to prevent unemployment. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the capital will need a year for this. There are currently about 250 McDonald’s restaurants in the city. Kommersant FM political observer Dmitry Drize believes that the problem is more complicated than it might seem at first glance.

Apparently, McDonald’s is the only one that deserves to leave with special honors. Now many Western companies are leaving Russia, but it is this network that is being discussed at the plenary session of the State Duma. The mayor of Moscow and the deputy head of the Security Council are talking about her. Of course, this is primarily due to the economic significance of the company. McDonald’s has 850 restaurants in 60 regions of the Russian Federation. In total, counting with suppliers, this is more than 160 thousand jobs and 7% of the market. Let’s not talk about taxes and investments, this is also a very impressive figure.

However, it seems that it is not only about the economy. You can venture to say that in Russia the network is much more popular than in the US and many other countries. First of all, because it does not fall under the official Soviet definition of “public catering”. If you remember the real Soviet canteens with their assortment, take my word for it, this is not the same thing. Otherwise, citizens would not line up for many hours for a hamburger and a cheeseburger. Yes, and the current Russian people continue to willingly visit these institutions. And it may very well be that many of them sincerely hate America.

McDonald’s is no longer a bow to the West. This is just an opportunity to eat relatively cheaply and tasty with the appropriate service, which is supported by the brand. The network operates all over the world, but the sale of the last hamburger on Avito for 40 thousand rubles. – this is even more than a mention at the level of the State Duma and the Security Council.

Why, in fact, all this speech. We are not going to shed tears here – but damn it. The only thing is that you can make a very tasty cutlet, fry excellent potatoes and pour wonderful kvass into glasses, but this is not even half the battle. It is important to create an image, to ensure the popularity of this seemingly ordinary eatery.

“Uncle Vanya” is, of course, wonderful, but for 30 years we have been talking about creating national brands in order to oust this very “symbol of America”, and the latter does not want to give up its positions. And, it seems, it will be remembered with nostalgia, because the forbidden fruit is sweet. And the nostalgia for canteens will pass, because you want something more than just food. At least do it comfortably.

However, there is another chance to create your own “Uncle Vanya”, this very national brand, so that people go there in droves and forget about McDonald’s. You just need to take advantage of this opportunity. However, this is not as simple as it might seem at first glance.
