This international label was thus hoisted on the beaches of the M’diq-Fnideq prefecture, due to the commitment of local authorities, who are in charge of the complete management of the beaches within their perimeter, and the work undertaken to ensure environmental quality meeting the standards set by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection and the FEE, in particular those relating to the quality of bathing water, information and awareness, environmental education, health, security, upgrade and management.
The distinction of the beaches of Al Minaa, M’diq-Médina, Marina Smir Est and Riffyine, and the marina of Marina Smir took place during a ceremony, which took place in the presence of the secretary general of the prefecture of M’diq-Fnideq, Abderrazzak El Gourji, local officials, presidents and members of elected councils and civil society actors.
In a statement to MAP, the head of the economic affairs and coordination division at the M’diq-Fnideq prefecture, Rachid Oulkadi, stressed that this distinction comes as a reward for the sustained efforts deployed at the prefecture level in with a view to preserving the cleanliness and quality of these spaces, noting that this labeling is an incentive to work for the consolidation of this environmental achievement and the maintenance of the high standards required for this Label.
He affirmed that the services of the M’diq-Fnideq prefecture continue to work, with dedication and diligence, so that this label is hoisted on all the ports and beaches of the prefecture, stressing that this label contributes greatly to the implementation in light of the tourist and natural assets which the prefecture abounds, which constitute one of the factors of attraction of foreign and Moroccan tourists.
Note that the international Blue Flag label will fly on 27 beaches, four marinas and, for the first time in Morocco, on a mountain lake during the 2024 summer season.
The Blue Flag beaches are all part of the Clean Beaches program, which brings together more than a hundred beaches, mainly the busiest in the country.
Some 66 local authorities, supported by their supervisory authorities, the General Directorate of Territorial Communities, all the administrations concerned with coastal management, 26 economic partners and more than a hundred local associations will mobilize for nearly three months to raise awareness and educate summer visitors, ensure the quality of bathing water and sand, equip the beaches, ensure safety and health coverage, and enforce order and regulations.
In Morocco, the Blue Flag ecolabel was introduced by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection in 2002 as part of its Clean Beaches program. Thanks to its long-term support work for coastal communities, the Foundation has continued to develop its program and increase its efforts to provide environmental education and ensure the protection of the marine environment. and human health, improve the accessibility of beaches and secure them.
