Classes in Guatemala, Sacatepéquez and Escuintla continue to be suspended

The suspension of classes It continues for Wednesday, April 10 in the departments of Guatemala, Escuintla and Sacatepéquez, as indicated by the Mineduc through a press release published on its social networks. The measure is maintained with the objective of protecting the health of students and educational staff in the midst of the air pollution associated with the fire being fought at the landfill of the Authority for the Sustainable Management of the Basin and Lake Amatitlán.

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction -CONRED- reported in a press conference that the event is 60% controlled. The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology -INSIVUMEH- reported this morning that the air quality was in the “Dangerous” category, the highest of the Air Quality Index. For this afternoon, the index registered lower levels, although not as satisfactory, since it returned to the “Very Bad” category, in which the levels of recent days have been recorded.
