The defendant and the victim were equally distressed. So much so that the first was almost taken to the hospital and the second left the courthouse in Meaux, just before the hearing. The Meaux Criminal Court judged, last Wednesday, a 27-year-old father, for harassment of a spouse, domestic violence in the presence of minors and degradation of property.

Alex and his girlfriend met when they were still teenagers. Twelve years later, and after the birth of two children, nothing is going well in the couple. A few months ago, the young woman ended the relationship. And it’s an understatement to say that Alex can’t stand it. Since May, he has continued to harass his ex, by telephone or by appearing in front of his home in Cergy-Pontoise (Val-d’Oise).

912 calls and 197 texts in one month

During the night from Sunday to Monday, the police officers of the Meaux police station also intervened at the foot of a building in the Beauval district, in Meaux, where the new friend of the mother of the family lives. Alex had just hit his ex’s car – in which their 3 and 5 year old sons were – with his vehicle. It is an understatement to say that his police custody then went badly, since he tried to strangle himself with his T-shirt, with his socks, with his pants and then with his underpants. He asked the police to “kill” him because no one would listen to him.

“What were you doing that night between the bowling alley and the restaurant?” Why are you leaving Alfortville to go to Meaux at midnight? asked President Emmanuelle Teyssandier. “I filmed in Meaux, I continued almost everywhere. I wanted her to tell me if it was really over. I wanted to see the children. And then I wanted her to tell the truth to her new boyfriend because sometimes she and I see each other. I wanted her to choose between us,” he replied. The magistrate wondered if the defendant had not set up software on the phone or the car of his ex-companion, to locate her.

The defendant was on a loop about his marital history. “When the police arrived, your children were in tears. Your relationship is over, you have to understand that, ”insisted the president. The young man was crying behind the glass of the box. The president then embarked on reading the insulting and gravelly text messages sent by the defendant to the mother of his sons. Messages to which the unfortunate never answered. In one month, he called her no less than 912 times and sent her 197 text messages.

Me Bogos Boghossian represented the mother of the family: “When he has something in mind, nothing stops him. Even the presence of the police and that of her crying children in the car. My client needs to be reassured”. The deputy prosecutor Nathalie Scholler required two years in prison, including 14 months firm: “His discomfort at the start of the hearing was another attempt to draw attention to him. The defendant is self-centered, he has not gone beyond the stage of childish frustration”.

The tone of the prosecutor rose, especially when she returned to the nature of the messages sent. Once is not custom, she asked for the withdrawal of the exercise of parental authority. And this, in order to prevent the defendant from using his children to reach their mother. The judges did not pronounce it. He was sentenced to two years in prison, one of which is firm, with a warrant of committal. Me Sarah Gharbi, the defense lawyer, had mentioned the personality disorders of her client, noted by a psychiatrist. Before insisting on the need to pronounce an injunction of care: “He is totally intolerant to frustration. Every time we say no to him, he responds with a mechanism of violence”.
