“We have not determined until now that it has a common thread, however, the way in which they contact these people is the same: through the social networks. We are advancing in the investigation, we have data not only on this case, but on previous ones,” said General Javier Martín, commander of the Valle de Aburrá Police, of which Medellín is a part.

At the beginning of April, the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, led a security council -in which, among others, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office (Public Ministry) participated- to address cases of violence against the LGBTI community. “A special team is created for the clarification and work for the protection of the LGBTI population,” said the mayor at the time, adding that for all crimes against these people it rose to 80 million pesos (about 17,700 dollars and about 16,000 euros). for information on cases that occur. According to figures from the Caribe Afirmativo organization, violence against LGBTIQ people claimed the lives of 145 citizens. Likewise, Caribe Afirmativo points out that between January and April of this year there have been 21 murders of LGBTIQ+ people in Colombia.
