KINSHASA – In the Democratic Republic of Congo, this year’s celebration of World Press Freedom Day is placed under the high patronage of President Félix Tshisekedi. This 30th
day coincides with the advent of the new Press Law.

The news was announced by Patrick Muyaya, Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, on Friday April 28, 2023, at the 96th meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The spokesperson for the Congolese government indicated that this international event coincides with the advent of the new press law. A text that comes to redefine the Congolese media landscape.

He mentioned, to this end, that this Law will also enshrine media safety, a recommendation made by the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi, during the opening and closing of the works of the States General of Communication and Media. in January 2022.

With this new Law, the majority of the resolutions of the States General of Communication and Media will be implemented. These resolutions will serve as a compass for the reforms to be undertaken in order to regulate and promote the exercise of freedom of the press in the DRC.

Finally, “The man of the change of narrative of the Congolese press” indicated that this celebration will be organized by his ministerial department, in collaboration with the Superior Council of Audiovisual and Communication (CSAC). But also with professional media organizations and the National Press Union of Congo (UNPC).

Remember that the 30th World Press Freedom Day is placed under a national theme: “Freedom of expression put to the test by the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. New press law for a new dynamic”.
