San Salvador. The Medical College of El Salvador came out in defense of the three doctors and medical students expelled from the Health system as a result of comments on their social networks, which were considered by the Health authorities as a sign of a lack of empathy.

Representatives of the Medical Association attributed the comments of the three affected to the fatigue caused by the overload of work and the saturation that resulted from the medical emergency caused by the stampede in the Cuscatlán stadium, on May 20.

These events caused the death of 12 people and injuries to about 100 more, before which the medical union expressed its solidarity with the affected families.

The aforementioned college considered the messages of the doctors unfortunate, but appreciated that they “cannot be interpreted as a lack of vocation and commitment to the health of Salvadorans”, even less, when the immediate and timely care of medical personnel in this specific case.

The union also expressed its demand that the physical, moral, emotional and labor integrity of the three women affected be respected with the administrative decision of the authorities of the Ministry of Health and the Salvadoran Institute of Social Security.

The union also maintains that due process must be respected in the application of the laws, which includes the regulations for a life free of violence against women.

The requests of the Medical College include the “immediate” reinstatement of the expelled Health personnel, without prejudice to the acquired labor rights.
