Public Health Crisis Deepens as Cambodian Attacks Compound Civilian Casualties

A worsening public health situation is unfolding as of December 31, 2025, with escalating civilian casualties and a strain on medical resources. The Ministry of Public Health released data indicating a significant impact on both direct attack victims and those suffering collateral effects from the ongoing unrest.
According to the Ministry’s report, compiled as of July 31, 2025, the crisis has resulted in a tragic loss of life and widespread disruption to healthcare services.
Mounting Death Toll and Injuries
The situation is marked by a grim tally of casualties. A total of 56 civilians have died, with 54 fatalities attributed to indirect impacts from the broader event and 2 directly resulting from Cambodian attacks. In addition to the deaths, 13 people have sustained injuries due to the attacks.
Displacement and Shelter Needs
The unrest has forced thousands to seek refuge in temporary shelters. Currently, 102 shelter centers are operational, housing a total of 7,858 people. This mass displacement presents significant challenges for public health officials, including the prevention of disease outbreaks and the provision of essential medical care.
Healthcare System Under Strain
The impact extends to the healthcare infrastructure itself. Seven hospitals are directly affected by the crisis, alongside 240 Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospitals. This widespread disruption threatens the ability to provide adequate medical attention to both those displaced and the wider population.
