After the SpacehopperSpacehopper jumping robot dedicated to asteroidsasteroids, here is another item from the roboticrobotic menagerie that could accompany humanity on its return to the MoonMoon. It bearsbears the name SpiritSpirit, looks like a quadrupedal robot of the Spot type, and it was released at an altitude of over 1,800 meters atop the snowy and rocky peaks of Mount Hood in Oregon, United States. The robot is part of the Legged Autonomous Surface Science in Analog Environments (Lassie) project.

A small dog step, but a giant leap for the Moon
This project aims to teach the robot to adapt to its environment in real-time. The AIAI is being utilized, since the robot must be capable of interacting with what it detects and also communicating with other robots on-site to enhance their knowledge of the local environment. Robotic dogs have the advantage of being able to maneuver in areas that are difficult to access with rovers. Other wheel and six-legged models are also being developed.
