Meeting of British Deputy High Commissioner with Industrial Adviser

British Deputy High Commissioner and Development Director James Goldman, appointed to Bangladesh, met Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Industry.

They met on Monday (September 23) in the office of the Industrial Adviser at the Secretariat. At this time, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Industry Zakia Sultana and additional secretary Md. Salim Ullah along with senior officials of the ministry were present there.

The British Deputy High Commissioner was welcomed by the Ministry of Industry. During the meeting, the industrial adviser said that Britain has been a trusted development partner of Bangladesh for a long time. Britain was the first to recognize Bangladesh among the countries of the European Union. The two countries have excellent relations in terms of trade and investment. By working together, it is possible to take this relationship to a higher level.

The industrial adviser sought the cooperation of the UK government to bring back the money smuggled from Bangladesh during the previous government.

The senior secretary of the Ministry of Industry said that a bilateral capital investment and protection agreement was signed between Bangladesh and Great Britain on June 19, 1980. Through this agreement, the direct foreign investment protection of the two countries has been ensured. He expressed his intention to renew the agreement.

The senior secretary urged the UK to invest more in leather, sugar, ship recycling, fertilisers, cement, textiles, pharmaceuticals, environment and climate related projects and other relevant sectors. The UK and the Ministry of Industry are keen to work together to develop the young generation, especially graduates, into successful entrepreneurs through SMEs.

The British Deputy High Commissioner expressed support for the current interim government. He also expressed his determination to cooperate with the legal process for the return of money laundered from Bangladesh.
