A delegation from China’s textile and apparel industry visited the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). They discussed various issues including increasing investment in textile and apparel sector.

On Sunday (July 7), businessmen of the two countries held a discussion at the BGMEA building in Uttara of the capital.

BGMEA President SM Mannan (Cochin), Senior Vice President Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Abdullah Hill during a meeting with a 15-member delegation led by China Textile Industrial Corporation for Foreign Economic and Technical Cooperation (CTEXIC) Managing Director Huang Liansheng. Rakib and Vice President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, Director Ashiqur Rahman (Tuhin), Shams Mahmud, Rajiv Chowdhury, Abrar Hossain Sayem, Md. Zakir Hossain, Md. Nurul Islam, Md. Rezaul Alam (Miru), M. Ahsanul Haque, Mohammad Rakib Al Nasser and Md. Abshar Hossain and other senior officers were present.

The meeting discussed the exploration of investment opportunities, strategic partnership and business expansion between the textile and apparel industry of Bangladesh and China.

In the discussion, BGMEA President SM Mannan highlighted to the delegation the various aspects of Bangladesh’s garment industry, the industry’s contribution to the socio-economic sector and how the industry is increasingly shifting towards manmade fiber-based garments to keep pace with the changing global market demands.

He said, due to strategic, geographical location, political stability, growing infrastructure, Bangladesh is currently a promising destination for business and investment.

SM Mannan stressed on technological investment by Bangladeshi garment manufacturers to acquire more capacity and increase efficiency in manufacturing high-end complex garments.

BGMEA leaders highlighted the potential of Chinese investment in high-end textiles and backward linkage industries in Bangladesh, saying both countries would benefit from it. This Chinese investment will be very helpful especially in the link industry of Bangladesh’s manufactured garment sector. Moreover, they also sought China’s assistance in capacity building through exchange of knowledge and technical expertise.

Huang Liansheng, Managing Director of CTEXIC, expressed interest in Bangladesh’s business and investment environment and policy evaluation and expressed the purpose of the delegation’s visit to Bangladesh.

He said, we are happy to see significant improvement in the working environment in factories in Bangladesh during the visit to various garment factories. The positive attitude and energetic attitude of the workers here is commendable. Many Chinese companies are keen to find business and investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

Huang Liansheng also said, we want to share our positive experiences with other Chinese companies. Those who have not yet entered Bangladesh.
