The People’s Rights Council held a meeting with Gwen Lewis, the UN Resident Representative in Bangladesh. The meeting was held at the United Nations Resident Office in the capital on Monday (August 19).

The meeting was attended by the President of the People’s Rights Council Nurul Haque Noor and General Secretary Md. Rashed Khan and Huma Khan, Senior Adviser on Human Rights at the United Nations Dhaka Office.

In the meeting, the current situation of the country and the aspirations of the students and the people of Bangladesh were discussed about the ideas of the People’s Rights Council and the views of the United Nations. At this time, the peaceful movement of the student population has been requested for the investigation of the genocide carried out by the Awami League government and the assistance of the United Nations in the construction of the future Bangladesh. UN technical and non-technical assistance has also been sought for an impartial investigation into the massacre. In addition, the effective role of the United Nations in solving the Rohingya problem, including creating a tolerant, democratic environment through state reform, has been discussed. The People’s Rights Council has been assured that the United Nations will provide all possible assistance to Bangladesh in organizing free and fair elections to meet the expectations of the youth and public aspirations.
