Meeting to discuss the situation of migrant workers in Libya

The Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation in the Government of National Unity, Ali Al-Abed Al-Rida, accompanied by the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Jumaa, held a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tripoli, with representatives of the Passports and Nationality Authority, the Libyan Intelligence Service, and the Libyan Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Company.

The meeting is held to discuss the mechanism for linking electronic work permits with the electronic visa system, and to consider it the second phase of the digital project of the “Wafed” platform.

The head of the Passports and Nationality Authority confirmed that since July 17, work permits for foreigners have been granted through the electronic Wafed platform, which will be linked to the electronic visa platform so that the granting of permits and visas for workers becomes electronic.

During the meeting, the technical mechanism followed by the Ministry of Labor, the Intelligence Service, and the Passports Department regarding granting electronic work permits and electronic work visas was reviewed, and their technical and legal integrity was verified to start working with them.

During the meeting, the settlement of the status of workers present in Libyan territory without obtaining a work permit and entry visa, and the issuance of residency by the Passports Authority, was discussed. It was agreed to form a working group from the Ministry of Labor, the Passports Authority, and the Intelligence Service to address this file.
