Meeting to follow up on the implementation of the general population census project

Today, Thursday, a meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tripoli to follow up on the decision of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity No. 478 regarding conducting the seventh general population census and its accompanying censuses.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Planning in charge and the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Chairman of the General Authority for Information, the Director of the Civil Status Authority, the Director of the Statistics and Census Authority, and a number of department directors.

The technical team of the Authority presented a light show explaining the implemented stages of the project and the technical completion rates starting from dividing Libya according to the census areas based on international standards, and completing the economic survey of the institutions operating in the service, commercial and industrial activities, in addition to the actual start of the first phase of the project that includes the inventory of families, buildings, residences and facilities according to each municipality, which has not been completed since 2006, confirming that the Authority has completed all the technical and administrative preparations to complete it according to the approved timetable.

In turn, the Minister of Planning explained that the census project aims to provide the state with complete data on the numbers of Libyan and foreign residents and families according to their places of residence in cooperation with the Civil Status Authority, in addition to other censuses of private and public homes, facilities and utilities, in addition to building an integrated database for each locality that helps state institutions in making various decisions and providing services that depend on the actual population density.

The meeting also discussed the results of the committee to review and update Law No. 16 of 1963 on statistics and census, formed by a decision of the Council of Ministers, which will contribute to activating the work of the Statistics and Census Authority, according to what the media office of the Government of National Unity reported.
