Meeting to follow up on the volatile weather conditions

In order to organize the efforts made to confront the flow of torrents, the flow of valleys and various emergencies, an expanded meeting was held at the Cabinet Office in Tripoli, with the attendance of a number of ministries in charge of the Government of National Unity, the agencies, the National Safety Authority and the National Center for Meteorology.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the National Center of Meteorology presented a light show showing the weather conditions in the country in the first half of September to explain the weather conditions and the movement of torrents and valleys according to the regions and municipalities.

In turn, the Dams Department at the Ministry of Water Resources provided an explanation of the conditions of about 17 dams in the country, the water level in them, and the measures taken by them. The department reassured that the water level is still at the lowest level.

The meeting concluded with an agreement that the National Center of Meteorology would submit a weekly report on the country’s weather conditions to the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Interior, where the latter was tasked with inviting the Emergency Response Room and relevant municipalities to meet and take early measures and practical steps, and organize the role of agencies and institutions through the room in providing their services to the affected municipalities and areas early through the technical report, and unify efforts to ensure the success of the work and protect citizens and property.

The meeting also emphasized the role of the Emergency Response Room, formed by the Prime Minister, in identifying the parties involved in emergencies and disasters, with the aim of organizing work and unifying efforts.

The committee’s work comes within the government’s immediate plan to confront natural disasters, according to reports from the National Center of Meteorology until the end of this year.

It was also stressed the need to follow up on the Prime Minister’s instructions to update the national plan to confront emergencies and natural disasters and to implement it during the long-term plan.

At the end of the meeting, the ministries, agencies and centres reassured citizens in all regions of Libya of their high readiness to confront any weather conditions or climate fluctuations and to provide the necessary capabilities in this regard.

The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Local Government, the Ministry of Water Resources, in addition to the emergency and ambulance medical support and ambulance departments, the emergency and agricultural police, the municipal guard, the water and sanitation companies, the public services, the National Safety Authority, and the National Center for Meteorology.
