Meeting to organize response efforts to floods in the southwest

The Emergency Committee, formed based on the instructions of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity regarding responding to the repercussions of rainfall, floods and valleys in the municipalities of (Tahala, Ghat, Al-Barakat and Al-Uwainat), held an emergency meeting on Friday evening, headed by the Minister of Local Government and Chairman of the Committee, Badr Al-Din Al-Tumi, and attended by its members from the officials of the sectors and government agencies concerned with the response.

The official page of the Ministry of Local Government on Facebook reported that the meeting discussed the committee’s work plan regarding assessing the situation, closely following up on developments, organizing and coordinating response and relief efforts, providing support, and managing information about the damage and impacts resulting from floods and torrents in the municipalities of Tahala and Ghat and the areas surrounding them.

The meeting focused on identifying response priorities and directing the relevant authorities to coordinate and manage the operations of providing relief and aid convoys and delivering them to those who actually deserve them from the affected population.

The Minister confirmed in his speech during the meeting that relief shipments containing (tents, mattresses, blankets, drinking water, dry food) and other supplies had been sent, noting that the shipments were on the verge of reaching the affected areas.

Al-Tumi stressed the need to coordinate and unify all efforts at all levels, including rescue operations, sheltering the affected population, providing temporary shelters to accommodate them, working to provide food, water and basic health care, in addition to accelerating work to restore electricity and communications network services.

It is noteworthy that the Emergency Committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Minister of Local Government and the membership of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs for Development and Development Affairs, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Public Affairs, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Public Hospitals Affairs, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Company for Water and Sanitation, the Chairman of the National Safety Authority, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Electricity Company, the Director General of the Center for Support and Emergency Medicine, the Head of the Municipal Guard, and the Director General of the Local Call Center 1415.
