President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for a discussion on the political issue of the Tamil people, and the central committee meeting of the Sri Lankan Tamil Republic Party has discussed the issue.
The Central Committee of the Tamil Rashid Party met today in Vavuniya at the Vavuniya Residential District Cultural Hall.
In the central committee chaired by party leader Mavai Senathiraja, the role of Tamil parties in the current political environment and the meeting of Tamil parties with the president were also discussed.
The position of the party
Member of Parliament Sumanthran said that the party’s position on the political system issues, which are said to be just beginning, has been examined.
It has also been examined in relation to the re-arrangement of local council area boundaries.
At the same time, in the matter of political solution, we have already discussed with the Tamil National Parties, the expropriated lands should be released immediately, continuous land encroachments should be stopped, and land acquisition activities should be stopped.
Presently, the power sharing issues in the constitution and laws should be fully implemented and provincial council elections should be held.
Sumanthran mentioned that he has decided to advance the 3 issues that the powers should be shared on the basis of internal self-determination in the Samasti framework in a meaningful power sharing system in the North-East and has put it before the government.
He said that these should happen within certain time limits and urged the government.
The issue of political prisoners
He said that although the government had stated that there were 32 political prisoners, it also stated that none could be released under the President’s pardon.
However, he also mentioned that the principal has informed to reconsider it.
When Sumanthan was questioned about the TNA leadership and issues,
Discussions with Sambandhan took place on the basis that a mechanism was necessary to deal with the various problems that had arisen in Trincomalee.
Mawai Senathiraja and I met Sambandhar and had a discussion. He has said that he handles it differently. So we believe that those matters will be dealt with, Sumanthran said.
