Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches $720 Million After Tuesday’s Drawing
After Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing failed to produce a jackpot winner, the prize money for the next drawing has skyrocketed to an estimated $720 million. This colossal jackpot comes after the previous drawing of $640 million also went without a winner. The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing were 19, 22, 31, 37, 54, and the Mega Ball was 18. It’s been months since anyone has claimed the Mega Millions jackpot, with the last win occurring on April 18th.
Tuesday’s drawing marked the seventh-largest in the history of the Mega Millions lottery. But this is not the first time that Mega Millions has seen such enormous jackpot amounts. According to the lottery’s website, Mega Millions has awarded four jackpots exceeding $1 billion in its history. These massive wins occurred in 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
As the excitement continues to build, the Powerball jackpot has also been steadily growing and has now reached an astounding $1 billion ahead of its next drawing, scheduled for Wednesday night. Winning either the Mega Millions or the Powerball jackpot comes with incredibly slim odds, approximately 1 in 300 million. To put this into perspective, the National Park Service states that you are more likely to be attacked by a grizzly bear at Yellowstone National Park (1 in 2.7 million). Even the odds of being struck by lightning (1 in 15,300) are significantly higher than winning the lottery.
Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing will be the seventh-largest in United States lottery history, adding to the anticipation and excitement surrounding these record-breaking jackpots. Mega Millions tickets cost $2 each, and players can choose to add the Megaplier for an additional $1 to potentially multiply their non-jackpot prizes. The lottery drawings take place at 11 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta.
