jpnn.comJAKARTA – The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, made a pilgrimage to the tomb of Imam Bukhari in Khartang Village, which is around 25 kilometers from Samarkand City, Uzbekistan, Friday (20/9).

The pilgrimage was carried out by the daughter of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno or Bung Karno, in between activities while in Uzbekistan.

Megawati, who wore a red dress and a white headscarf, came accompanied by the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga and Professor of the Faculty of International Relations of St. Petersburg University (SPBU) Connie Rahakundini Bakrie.

Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan DPP for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Basarah, Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan DPP for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Rokhmin Dahuri Ismail, Deputy Head of BRIN Amarulla Octavian, Deputy Head of BPIP Rima Agristina, and elected legislator Samuel Wattimena also accompanied Megawati to the tomb of Imam Bukhari.

Megawati arrived at the location at around 14.30 local time and was greeted by Samarkand Deputy Governor Rustam Kobilov and the Director of the Imam Bukhari complex, Maqsud Hoji.

Maqsud Hoji also invited Megawati and her entourage to enter the Imam Bukhari tomb complex.

Megawati, while walking towards the tomb, had the chance to ask Maqsud Hoji about several sides of the building complex that were being renovated.

Megawati, in the discussion, was also impressed by the wall and roof carvings on one side of the tomb complex because there was a combination of cream colors and carvings of typical Uzbek images.
