BJP leader Ramdas has urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to shed tears over the loss of rights in the Megha Dadu dam issue. In his statement, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Puppet said that he would go to New Delhi to urge the central government to give permission for the Megha Dadu Dam across the Cauvery River and before that an all-party meeting would be held to discuss the Megha Dadu issue. Karnataka’s attempt to further complicate the Megha Dadu issue is reprehensible. Speaking to reporters in Hubli, Karnataka, the puppet said he had told Union Water Resources Minister Gajendrasingh Shekhawat, who was in Bangalore, to approve the Megha Dadu dam project and was going to New Delhi to stress on the next steps. For the past two days, the comments made by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Pom and Union Minister Shekhawat on the Megha Dadu Dam issue do not seem natural.
These appear to be the introductory scenes of the biggest plot to be hatched in connection with the Meghadau Dam. These should not be ignored. The case related to the Meghadau Dam is pending in the Supreme Court. Nothing can be done next without a Supreme Court ruling. In such a scenario, if the Government of Tamil Nadu is silent on the allocation of Rs.1000 crore for the non-existent Megha Dadu project and the next day Union Water Resources Minister Shekhawat will come to Bangalore and speak in support of the Government of Karnataka, it will be the people and farmers of Tamil Nadu who will ultimately suffer the loss. Elections to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly will be announced within the next one year. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka and the opposition Congress have been staging several consecutive plays to seek political gain in that election. It would not be surprising if the next step would be to make some changes to the Meghadau dam project, change its purpose and lay the groundwork for the federal government’s approval. But if that happens, it will paralyze the Cauvery Irrigation Districts in Tamil Nadu. Karnataka has no right to build a dam across the South Indian River which flows from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.
However, the Karnataka government, which had deceived the Supreme Court and the Central Government into approving the project, has completed the construction of a dam across the Tenpennayar. If the Tamil Nadu government is negligent in the matter of the Megha Dadu Dam, we will lose all our rights in the Cauvery River and will have to shed tears. To prevent such a situation from happening, it is imperative that the Government of Tamil Nadu understands the purpose of the measures being taken by the Government of Karnataka and takes retaliatory measures to overcome them. The Government of Tamil Nadu should soon convene a meeting of all party leaders to discuss strategies for this. In addition, he said that all party leaders led by Chief Minister MK Stalin should personally urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to allow the construction of any dam across the Cauvery River for any purpose.
