Former US first lady Melania Trump has emerged as a passionate defender of abortion rights, according to a copy of her upcoming memoir. In the book, titled “Melania,” she argues that women should have the right to make their own decisions regarding pregnancy.
“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the right to determine what to do with her own body? A woman’s basic right to personal freedom, to her own life, gives her the right to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” Melania writes. She advocates for a “common sense approach” where the decision to terminate a pregnancy rests with the woman and her doctor.
While this position contradicts Republican ideology, Melania claims her views align with neither her husband nor the party as a whole. Notably, Trump himself has stated his support for a federal abortion ban if he wins the upcoming election.
The memoir explores Melania’s strong conviction that women should have complete autonomy over their bodies, including the right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. She argues that restricting access to abortion is akin to “taking away control of her own body.”
Melania also addresses the issue of late-term pregnancy termination, arguing that such procedures are extremely rare and usually involve severe fetal abnormalities. She calls for a societal acceptance of these standards.
Throughout the book, Melania expresses compassion for women who choose to have abortions, while acknowledging her own immigrant perspective on immigration issues.
