It is rare for Melania Trump to publicly stand up for her husband. At the party convention, she made an exception – with a special touch.
Suddenly she is playing a role in Donald Trump’s election campaign – despite months of absence. Former First Lady Melania Trump appeared at the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee on Thursday, putting an end to her long period of reticence. What’s more, she appeared so lovingly next to her husband Donald Trump that he was literally raving about her.
“On this journey, I am honored to be accompanied by my wonderful wife, Melania,” Trump said in his speech. Those present, including Melania Trump, rose from their seats, and the 54-year-old waved beamingly to the audience. Donald Trump praised her “beautiful letter to America,” which she had written after the attack on the campaign rally. Donald Trump even suggested including it in the official Republican program: “That would be an honor.”
The former First Lady had released a statement in which she, like other family members of the former president, reacted to the shooting at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania. Among other things, she described the shooter as “a monster” who perceived her husband “as an inhuman political machine.”
When Melania Trump took the stage in Milwaukee, her husband kissed her on the cheek and they were seen holding hands. That alone is something special and can be interpreted as a loving gesture, because in the past Melania has either not been seen with Donald Trump at all or has been surprisingly distant. Now Melania wore a red ensemble with a knee-length skirt and blazer for the high-profile appearance – and attracted everyone’s attention.
In his speech, Donald Trump also thanked “his entire family,” including his sons and daughters and his ten grandchildren. Several family members were present at the event, including Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany and Donald Trump Jr. who showed their support. Barron Trump, Trump’s son with wife Melania, was not present.
Melania Trump has rarely appeared during her husband’s entire election campaign. Among other things, she missed the first TV debate between Donald Trump and incumbent Joe Biden. She only made public appearances at the campaign launch in November 2022 at her Mar-a-Lago home and when voting in the presidential primaries in Florida in March.
