Melilla Celebrates Grandparents’ Day with Heartfelt Tributes and Community Festivities

by time news

The grandparents of Melilla had their special day yesterday, a day that honored their love, support, and contribution. A date that, although not as well-known as others, always deserves to be celebrated with joy.

The La Amistad Neighborhood Association celebrated the Grandparents’ Day with a meal among members and friends of this Melilla entity.

This association is mainly composed of retirees and pensioners, so this commemoration is always more representative than other events they organize throughout the year. In addition, this meeting served to honor Agustín García, an amateur photographer of the social and sports life of Melilla, who was a caretaker for several years at the Lázaro Fernández pavilion.

The event was attended by the Minister of Culture, Cultural Heritage, and the Elderly, Fadela Mohatar, and the Deputy Minister of Participatory Movement, Nasera Al-lal.

The association has dedicated 34 years to fostering social interaction among the elderly in Melilla. Its headquarters is located in the Las Minas del Rif neighborhood.

Day Center

On another note, the San Francisco Day Center also celebrated Grandparents’ Day yesterday, where the two oldest residents were honored.

This year’s grandfather has been Haddu Lachouchi Boufasi, born on February 12, 1944; while the honored grandmother was Juana García Moreno, whose birth date is October 11, 1932.

The Minister of Social Policies and Public Health, Randa Mohamed, attended this tribute.

From the Center, they hope that both grandparents will accompany them for many years with all their wisdom and well-being.

This celebration was part of the programming developed by the Center. Activities dedicate to providing a service among users with courses taught by specialized instructors, such as crafts workshops, gymnastics, or literacy classes. The goal is to encourage users and demonstrate that they can still engage in such activities.

Some of these workshops have been aimed at the Center’s participation in various contests organized by the Autonomous City, such as the May Crosses or Nativity Scenes.

Grandparents’ Day is commemorated every July 26 in honor of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, the parents of the Virgin Mary.
