Among the contestants in the first round are many familiar names:

Adam Woods (Adam Woods): Competed for the first time at Melodifestivalen 2023 alongside the singers Yand Henrik Philgren (Jon Henrik Fjällgren) וArk North (Arc North). The three qualified for the final with the song “Where You Are (Sávežan)” (in Hebrew: “Where You Are Wild Adam”) and reached the fourth place in the final. Woods returns once more to the competition, this time as a solo artist.

Samir & Viktor: A musical duo founded in 2014. The two competed for the first time at Melodifestivalen in 2015 with the song “Groupie” and came in eighth place. In 2016, they competed for the second time with the song “Bada nakna” and reached the 12th and last place in the final. The duo competed in Kedem for the third time in 2018 with the song “Shuffla” and came in fourth place.

Elisa Lindstrom: Competed at Melodifestivalen 2014 with the song “Casanova” and reached fifth place in the first semi-final. In 2021, she competed for the second time with the song “Den du är” and reached seventh and last place in the third semi-final.

Lisa Ajax: 25 years old, won the Swedish reality show “Idol” in 2014. Participated four times in the Swedish competition: in 2016 with the song “My Heart Wants Me Dead” (seventh place), in 2017 with “I Don’t Give A” (place ninth), in 2019 with the song “Torn” (ninth place), and in 2022 as part of a duet with Nilo (Niello), when they sang the song “Tror du att jag bryr mig” (sixth and last place in the second semi-final).

Smash into pieces: The rock band, which was formed in 2008 and has since released seven studio albums, is making a comeback to the Melodyfestival after its huge success last year with the song “Six Feet Under” which reached third place in the final. Besides their participation in Melodifestivalen 2023, the band’s guitarist Benjamin Yanbu (Benjamin Jennebo) participated in the competition as a writer at Melodifestivalen 2020, when he co-wrote the song “Troubled waters” performed by Victor Krone (Victor Crone).

The host of the competition will be Karina Berg (Carina Berg), while the comedian Bjorn Gustafsson (Björn Gustafsson) will serve as a “side-kick” (co-host).

Voting in the allocation phase will take place in the application and will begin during the performance of the seven songs, when viewers will be given the opportunity to vote up to five free votes for each individual song. After the end of all the performances, the artist who receives the most votes in the first round of voting will advance to the finals – so already at this stage we will know who the winner of each division is.

After that, the remaining six artists will advance to a second round of voting. In this round of voting, the audience gets up to five additional votes for each artist for free. The results in the second round of voting will be determined with the help of the votes from the first round of voting, in addition to the distribution of votes in the age categories in the application in the second round of voting: ages 3-9, ages 10-15, ages 16-29, ages 30-44, ages 45-59, ages 60- 74, and ages 75 and over. Each age category will be given equal weight in the vote.

This year, the production of Melodifestivalen introduced several changes in the format of the competition: The format of the finalists will not change and the two songs that reach the first and second places in the first four semi-finals will qualify for the final. The fifth semi-final that was used as a lifeline was canceled as a single show and in fact will serve as another semi-final for everything – compared to previous years, the artists who reached the third and fourth places will not appear again in “Lifeline”, and instead a quick summary of the performances will be broadcast to the viewers at home, and the viewers at home will choose two Additional songs that will qualify for the final. The grand final will consist of 12 songs every year, and the winner will be chosen by a combination of the audience’s vote (50%) and the judges’ vote (50%).

Another change we expect is an increase in the number of participants in the competition: Each semi-final will consist of six songs, compared to seven songs that have participated so far in each round in recent years, and the number of participants in the competition will increase from 28 to 30.

The winner of the final will represent Sweden at Eurovision 2024 to be held in Malmö, Sweden.
