Giorgia Meloni went to Ukraine to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky
The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, met this Tuesday with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and stressed support for Ukrainians in the war against Russia. For Meloni, there will be no “real peace” if Ukraine surrenders.
Meloni pointed out that he will help Ukraine with war materials, but will not supply the country with military planes. On the other hand, she confirmed that she will organize a summit to raise funds for the country’s reconstruction.
The Italian prime minister took advantage of the visit to visit cities destroyed by the Russian army. During the conversation, Meloni highlighted the concern that a possible defeat by Ukraine would trigger a wave of Russian invasion in other European countries.
Giorgia Meloni’s visit is considered one of the most significant by the European Union. The prime minister of Italy is linked to the extreme right of the country and has as her political godfather the former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, one of the best friends of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
On several occasions, Berlusconi has criticized Zelensky and blamed Ukraine for starting the war with Russia. For the Italian, the Ukrainians should give up the Donbass region and let the Russians annex the states.
Asked about Silvio Berlusconi’s speeches, Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the former prime minister and said that Berlusconi doesn’t “know what it’s like to sleep while being bombed”.
