Italy’s new prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, met with EU leaders in Brussels for the first time on Thursday. In talks with Parliament President Roberta Metsola, Council President Charles Michel and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Meloni assured stability in Italy’s relations with the European Union. But it has also become clear that their EU agenda is geared almost exclusively to national interests.
