/ The member of the Iraqi Football Association, Firas Bahr Al-Uloom, said on Saturday that the opening ceremony of the Asian Cup Championship yesterday in Qatar was taken from the opening ceremony of the 25th Gulf Championship in Basra.
Bahr Al-Uloom told Agency, “Iraq is proud that the idea of opening the Asian Championship in Qatar yesterday, Friday, was taken from the 25th Gulf Cup in Basra.”
He pointed out that “Iraq organized the 25th Gulf Cup at the highest organizational level and attracted the attention of all countries of the world,” indicating that “the evidence of this is Iraq receiving two awards for the best at the global level.”
He pointed out that “the opening of the Asian Championship was at a high level, but to be honest, it was a copy of the opening of the 25th Gulf Cup in Basra, as that was very clear to those who followed the opening of the two championships.”
Bahr Al-Uloom praised “the achievements made by Qatar in previous years, the media coverage of its championships, and other aspects that confirm the sports renaissance in this generous country.”
Yesterday, Qatar witnessed the opening ceremony of the 2023 Asian Cup, at Lusail Stadium, which hosted the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, between Argentina and France.
The opening ceremony was titled “The Lost Chapter of Kalila and Dimna,” one of the Asian heritage books that represents cultural similarities in the yellow continent.
The ceremony witnessed several singing and dancing performances, and Hassan Al-Haydos, captain of the Qatari national team, left the responsibility of delivering the championship oath to Musab Al-Batat, captain of the Palestinian national team.
Palestine was present at the opening ceremony through the song “For you, O city of prayer, I pray.”
